Lectures on KdV Theory and Related Subjects
Chang Shou Lin
( National Taiwan University )

1. Abstract

The motivation for organizing this series of seminar is arised from studying the curvature equation on compact Riemann surface. Although the equation is a nonlinear elliptic equation, the methods to attack this equation are involved with many genius ideas from different disciplines of mathematics. So in this seminar, we mainly discuss some interesting works related to this subject: elliptic integrable system (such as curvature equation and Toda system). The first talk is based on the papers by A. Eremenko and A. Gabrielor on the Shapiro conjecture, and its application to the mean field equation.
