Triply Periodic Minimal Surfaces, my recent adventures
Hao Chen (Universität Göttingen)

Abstract:

Triply periodic minimal surfaces (TPMSs) are minimal surfaces in flat 3-tori. This is a very interdisciplinary topic that finds applications in many natural sciences. In fact, many TPMSs were discovered by physicists and chemists long before the rigorous treatments by mathematicians. I will review the exciting history and recent developments on the topic. The talk is meant for general audience and contains many entertaining anecdotes.
